Mayweather's absence won't affect our bout-Lions Promotions

The postponement of Floyd Mayweather’s visit to Ghana will not affect the WBO Middleweight World Title Eliminator between Ghanaian Obodia Sai and undefeated Walter Kautondokwa scheduled for June 16 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

The bout was supposed to be part of Mayweather’s visit to the country but according to organizers, Lions Promotions, all is set for the bout dubbed "Xplosive Night Fight" to be staged despite the cancellation of the historic visit.

A release signed by President of Lions Promotions, Victor Ahiakpor stated that, “the fight already sanctioned by the WBO and IBF will not be affected by the postponement of Mayweather’s tour to Ghana.”

It added that “boxing fans will be thrilled by the exploits of very talented Boxers who will mount the ring on the night. Obodai Sai 32-2 (25KO’s) is poised to hand Walter Kautondokwa his first career defeat. The Namibian 14-0 (13KO’s) has promised to leave Ghana undefeated.”

In addition, there would be other top local fights including the rematch between Michael Ansah (One Bullet) and Patrick Okine known as the Mallet.

Ghana’s highest ranked boxer Rafael Mensah who is number three in the WBA Super featherweight world ratings will take on Edward Kambasi as Emmanuel Martey battles it out with Kofi Johnson in a 10 round Super Middleweight Contest.

Kpakpo Allotey will take on Tackie Annan in a National Super Lightweight Championship.“We at Lions Promotions promise on delivering an exciting night of pound for pound boxing and therefore call on the general public to come and support Obodai Sai in this fierce battle,”Mr Ahiabor stressed.

Regular tickets will go for GHC 20 and GHc 50 at the Ring Side with a special package scheduled for all supporters Union.
