The Ghana Police Service has announced temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Accra for the 2025 Millennium Marathon Sports Limited (MMSL).

The closure will affect designated routes in Osu and Cantonments. This means commuters will have to use alternative routes within the space.

The marathon will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, and the public has been urged to take note.

“Motorists should take note of the temporary closures along key routes, including Atta Mills High Street towards Osu, Liberation Road at 37 intersections towards the CBD, Independence Avenue at the National Theatre traffic light, La Beach Road, Oxford Street, Cantonment Road, and Jawaharlal Nehru Road,” the police announced in a statement.

The Police provided guidance for alternative routes.

"Motorists from Liberation Road should use Kaokudi Road through Kanda Highway and link up to Barnes Road to reach the CBD, or take Giffard Road to get to Osu."

"Those on Atta Mills Highway should use Liberia and Barnes roads to 37 intersections to link up to Osu and La. And motorists on Giffard Street should go through 37 intersections via Kaokudi to Dr. Hilla Liman High Street to reach the CBD.”

The police service force also reminded drivers to plan ahead. “No vehicle will be allowed to park along the closed roads. We advise the public to consider alternative routes before setting out,” the statement read.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, the Police said officers would be stationed at various points to assist motorists.

“Traffic police officers will be available to provide assistance at any point in time,” they emphasized.
