Prince Yaw Owusu has stepped down from his role as interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, bringing his short stint at the helm to an end.

Owusu stepped up to the head coaching role on an interim basis following the sacking of Karim Zito earlier in the 2025-2026.

Under Prince Owusu, Kotoko’s fortunes didn’t improve as the Porcupine Warriors failed to win games consistently and suffered big losses to rivals Accra Hearts of Oak (1-0) and 4-0 to Medeama SC. The club also got eliminated from the MTN FA Cup to Aduana at the round of 16 stage.

In a resignation letter addressed to the club’s management, Owusu indicated that his decision was made in the best interest of the team. While details surrounding his departure remain limited, the move signals a significant change as the club navigates the closing stages of the season.

The club’s management has since acknowledged his departure, expressing gratitude for his professionalism and contribution during his time in charge. In a statement, they commended his dedication and commitment, while also wishing him success in his future endeavors.

Following his exit, Hamza Obeng, who currently leads the club’s youth team, has been appointed to take charge of the senior side on an interim basis. He will oversee the team for the remainder of the season as the club works toward a more permanent solution.
