The best player of the continent currently Riyad Mahrez was virtually missing in action as Tunisia defeated Algeria 2-1 in their second Group B match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon.

The Leicester City playmaker was subdued throughout the game and could not come out with the expected magic when it became necessary.

An own goal from Aissa Mandi in the 50th minute and a penalty from Naim Sliti in the 66 minute gave Tunisia the lead after the first half ended goalless.

Algeria only got back into the game in the dying minutes of the second half and managed to get a goal back through Sofiane Hanni in the 90th minute.

Algeria would have to beat Senegal in their last group game in a bid to qualify to the next stage of the competition as the North African giants have only a point in two games.

However, Tunisia would also be hoping to get some points from Zimbabwe in their last group game to make it through to the next stage.

Both teams would know their fate after tonight’s game between Senegal and Zimbabwe.
