Denmark were held to a 1-1 draw against Australia in Russia 2018 Group C with their talisman Christian Eriksen opening the scoring but were pegged back by Jedinak's penalty decided by the VAR.

Denmark started the match on a front foot and dominated the early part of the game.

The breakthrough came in the 7th minute when Christian Erikson volleyed home with his left-footed past Ryan from around 15 yards.

Denmark nearly cushioned their advantage after Dalsgaard delivered a pinpoint cross only for Jorgensen to head the ball wide eight yards out.

Australia grew into the game, began to dominate possession which paid off with a penalty awarded by VAR.

Leckie headed the ball against Poulsen's hand similar to France Umtiti's penalty against Australia.

The captain, Jedinak, made no mistake slotting the ball low right pass helpless Schmeichel.

The second half was a 50/50 contest in the early stages between the two teams as both needed a win to ensure their easy progress to the next stage of the competition.

Australia came on top with possession and four shot on target but failed to get the winning goal.
