Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 courtesy Luis Suarez, which officially eliminated the Asian-based nation from Russia 2018.

Uruguay started on a good note as they were aware, a win would qualify them to the next stage of the tournament.

In the early stages of the first half, Rodriguez teed up Suarez who arrived and unleashed a powerful shot but was well blocked by the discipline Saudi defence.

Uruguay kept pushing, Caceres' delivered a low cross which was struck high and wide by Canani.

The Saudi's were dominating possession but failed to create any clear-cut chance in the first half.

This gave Uruguay's confidence to commit more men forward which finally paid off.

Suarez who marked his 100th cap banged in the goal from a well-delivered corner following a bad miss from the Saudi goalkeeper in an attempt to punch the ball wide.

In the second half, the Saudi's improved their game but still managed only 3 shots on target in the entire 90-minutes.

They dominated the proceedings but unfortunately, so much indecision caused the side not to register a goal.

Oscar Tabarez's men were able to hold on to the goal which eventually advanced them to the next stage of the competition.
