Paul Pogba's late strike gave France a 2-1 win over Australia in a Group C game of the Russia 2018 World Cup.

The Australians proved very tough opponents for France and held the 1998 World Cup winners to a goalless draw in the first half.

France came back a bit stronger in the second half as they won a penalty after the referee had consulted the VAR.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann stepped up and colly gave France the lead from the spot in the 58th minute.

That did not stop the Australians from pushing hard as they also won a penalty in the 62nd minute after France defender Umtiti handled the ball in the box.

Mile Jedinak scored to make it 1-1. It was in the 81st minute that Manchester United striker Paul Pogba's shot came off the crossbar but managed to cross the line.
