Manchester United have appointed club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their caretaker manager for the rest of the season with the Norwegian delighted to return to Old Trafford.


Solskjaer, reunited with the club eight years after he left as the Manchester United Reserve team manager. The Molde coach will be joined by Mike Phelan as the first-team coach, together with Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.

Molde have clarified the issue of Solskjaer insisting that they have only 'lent' Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Manchester United and have appointed Erling Moe as first-team coach in the Norwegian's absence.

The former Manchester United forward was delighted to return to his old stomping ground, "Manchester United is in my heart and it’s brilliant to be coming back in this role. I’m really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club."
