The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has appointed Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele Ayew, popularly known as El Maestro, to the Inter-Ministerial Advisory Board.
Abedi Pele, part of the 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee, is expected to provide strategic leadership and inter-ministerial coordination for Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Committee has been tasked with ensuring that Ghana derives the maximum benefit, technically, diplomatically, economically, and culturally, from the World Cup.

Membership of the Ministerial Oversight Committee includes:

2. Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams – Minister for Sports and Recreation (Chair)
3. Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Ministry of Foreign Affairs
4. Hon. George Opare Addo – Ministry of Youth Development
5. Hon. Yusif Jajah – Deputy Minister, Ministry of Tourism and Culture
6. Hon. Ampem Darko-Nyarkoh – Deputy Minister, Ministry of Finance
7. Kurt E.S. Okraku – President, Ghana Football Association
8. Elizabeth Yankah – Deputy National Security Coordinator
9. Abedi Ayew ‘Pele’ – Former Black Stars Captain
10. Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah – Chief Director, Ministry of Sports and Recreation

The Sports Minister expressed confidence in the board’s composition and encouraged members to provide bold, practical ideas that will shape Ghana’s ambition to become a continental leader in sports and recreation.
