Sutton reserve goalkeeper Wayne Shaw has risked disciplinary action from the Football Association for his pie-eating PR stunt in the second half.

Shaw, nicknamed the Roly-Poly Goalie, was aware that a bookmakers were offering 8-1 on him being caught on camera eating a pie during the game against Arsenal.

The 23-stone stopper became an overnight star after being spotted on the bench in Sutton's win against Leeds United in the third round.

He denied placing a bet on it and claimed that Sutton's players were also not allowed to stake anything on it.

But the FA are likely to take a dim view on the antics.

'A few of the lads said to me earlier on what is going on with the 8-1 about eating a pie,' Shaw said after the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.

'I said I don't know I have eaten nothing all day. So I might give it a go later on.

As I say what is that, they had us at 8-1 to eat a pie. I thought I would give them a bit of banter and let's do it. All the subs were on and we were 2-0 down.

'I went and got it at half time from the kitchen, I had it all prepared and ready to go. It was meat and potato.'

Asked if he knew anyone had backed the bet, he replied: 'I think there were a few people. Obviously we are not allowed to bet. I think a few of the mates and a few of the fans.

'It was just a bit of banter for them. It is something to make the occasion as well and you can look back and say it was part of it and we got our ticket money back.'

On Tuesday Shaw sat down for an interview with Piers Morgan on GMB.

MailOnline's Editor-At-Large even attempted to broker a transfer to Arsenal, the club he supports.

He said: 'We have a big problem with our defence at the moment.

'We could do with a big unit in goal like you. Are you ready for a transfer? Can I facilitate it?'

Shaw replied: 'My contract is nearly up so I’m open to offers.'

Morgan continued: 'Most of our players get about £40,000 a day for doing, what I see, as very little. What would it take to prize you and your pies out of Sutton to Arsenal?'

Pointing towards a pie platter in front of him, Shaw joked: 'I think two more than the four you have there!'

The same betting company that offered the odds also sponsored the National League side on a one-off occasion for the game, and had their brand plastered across the stadium. Daily Mail

Arsenal would face Lincoln in the quarter finals after their win against Sutton. The game also saw Theo Walcott scoring his 100th goal for the club.
