Third edition of Golf Fields PGA Championship launched

The Professional Golfers’ Association of Ghana(PGAGhana) has launched the third edition of the Gold Fields PGA Championship in Accra and slated for November 30 to December 3 at the Damang Golf Course in the Western region.

The event is expected to attract over 80 professional golfers across Africa to compete for the ultimate prize of GHC20,000.

Countries participating in this year’s event include, South Africa, Benin, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal as well as Sierra Leone and Ghana.

Speaking at the launch, Executive Vice President and Head of West Africa at Gold Fields, Mr. Alfred Baku said the outfit is committed to supporting golf and ensuring that the event becomes very successful.

He added that, the event over the years has helped professionals to improve upon their game and must be maintained to help in the total improvement of the standard of the sport in the country at large.

“Discipline level has also improved from last year and I encourage other corporate entities in the banking and telecommunications sector to come on board and also organize such events at other parts of the country,” he stated.

Golf Fields this year, he said is sponsoring the competition with $70,000 which is equivalent to GHC300,000 to ensure a bigger and better event.

In addition, the outfit is also introducing the Blue Jacket which would be taken by the ultimate winner in addition to the trophy and cash prize.

Mr. Baku asked golfers especially the Ghanaians to train and ensure they give the other countries participating a good game.

President of the PGAGhana, B.B.K Ayivor said the event is gradually becoming an international event which other countries look out for and must be supported and maintained by stakeholders.

He said, “I am looking forward to an exciting event with the best golfer wining the ultimate prize.” There would be prize for all 24 finalists.
