First Lady’s Cup: Hasaacas Ladies to engage Ampem Darkoa Ladies on Friday

Hasaacas Ladies Football Club and Ampem Darkoa Ladies will slug it out in the first-ever First Lady’s Cup this week.

The two women's football clubs will take to the Accra Sports Stadium to play in the newly introduced First Lady’s Cup on Friday, December 10, 2021.

The First Lady’s Cup is a newly introduced yearly competition by the First Lady of the land, Her Excellency, Rebecca Akufo-Addo which will be competed for between the winners of both the northern and southern zone.

 

Bawumia supports 46th SWAG Awards with GH¢50k

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has donated 50,000 Cedis to the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) towards this year’s SWAG Awards, which comes off on December 17, 2021 in Accra.

The donation was in response to a request for support to the Vice President by SWAG towards the awards, which recognises the exploits of Ghanaian sports men and women annually.

 

UCL: Xavi calls on struggling Barcelona to 'make history' at Bayern

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez on Tuesday called on his side to "make history" this week by handing Bayern Munich their first home defeat in the Champions League's group stages since 2013.

"Barca can beat anyone," Xavi insisted on the eve of Wednesday's match in Munich, where the Spanish giants have lost three and drawn one of their four previous Champions League games.

"If we win, it will be Barca's first victory here in Munich. We have a great opportunity to make history."
 

NBA roundup: LeBron James stars as Los Angeles Lakers beat Boston Celtics

 LeBron James scored 30 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 117-102 win over the Boston Celtics in the NBA.

James, who turns 37 later this month, was ably assisted by Russell Westbrook, who contributed 24 points and 11 assists, and Anthony Davis, who racked up 17 points and 16 rebounds.

 

Omicron variant: CAF dismisses rumours AFCON could be moved

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has dismissed rumours that next month AFCON could be moved away from Cameroon following the recent discovery of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19.

The new variant has led to travel restrictions being introduced by some countries for several African nations, with Nigeria, which neighbours Cameroon, the latest to be added to the United Kingdom's 'red list'.

In recent days, some media organisations have suggested the dates of the 24-team tournament could change or even the location be moved, possibly to Qatar.
