The Black Satellites of Ghana scored two goals in both halves to edge their West African neighbors Burkina Faso 2-0 in their opening Group B match of the Total Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Maradi.

The match which was billed as the clash of two heavyweights never disappointed the fans that came out to fill the Stade de Maradi.

WAFA Striker Daniel Agbloe Lomotey broke the deadlock against the run of play with a well-taken strike after he lobbied the ball over Burkina Faso goalkeeper, Traore outside the area on 41 minutes to give the Black Satellites the lead before the break.

Lomotey secured the points for the Black Satellites with a stylish finish on the 78th minute with a neat close-range effort to make sure they ease past the spirited Burkinabes.

The young Stallions had their share of the possession but failed to find the target as the Ghanaian defense foiled all their attempts.

Burkina Faso came close in the second half but Passega arrived late to connect to a sublime cross from Cheick.

Ghana Goalkeeper, Nurudeen Abdul Manaf produced a fine one hand save from a curled strike as the young Stallions of Burkina Faso take controlled in the dying embers of the game.

Burkina Faso continued to press for a consolation but goalkeeper Mannaf and his defense were in excellent form for Jimmy Cobbla's side.

The victory sends Ghana at the top of Group B ahead of Senegal who defeated Mali by the same margin.

Ghana next play Senegal on Wednesday, January 6, 2019.
