FC Porto knocked AS Roma out of Champions League after overturning a 2-1 deficit to advance to the quarterfinals of the competition.

The two sides settled for a 2-1 scoreline, making the aggregate  3-3 and the match was forced to go to extra time. With only five minutes remaining to penalties, Alex Telles scored the winner from the stoppage time, to knock Roma out of the competition while his side advanced to the next stage.

Roma needed a goalless draw to advance to the next round after emerging 2-1 winners in the first leg of the tournament. On the other end, Porto had it in the back of their minds that they a 1-0 win would send them through.

Porto goal

Porto broke the deadlock in the 26th minute and leveled the tie on aggregate. Manolas lost the ball inside his own half to give Porto a chance to break and they seized the opportunity. Telles drove into the box and then laid off for Marega, who was coming up fast on the overlap and squared into the middle for Tiquinho to tap in from a few yards out. It was checked by VAR to see if Tiquinho was offside - and it was a tight call - but the goal stood.

Roma penalty

Perotti cut into the box and then took a touch past Militao, who dived in clumsily and fouled him. There were no complaints from the Porto players as the referee pointed to the spot.  Cool as you like from De Rossi as he ran up to take the penalty and then stuttered and rolled it into the bottom corner.

Square on aggregate!

Porto once again fought and the leveled the scores in the 52nd minute. Corona checked back on the left side of the box and then curled a superb cross to the back post where Marega was wide open and tapped in from close range.

Porto penalty

The play was stopped as the referee went to check VAR for a penalty. It looked clear as Florenzi tugged Fernando's shirt as he tried to get on the end of a cross. Porto was awarded a penalty as referee decided it was a tug on the shirt and Florenzi was booked. Telles fired the penalty into the corner and then ripped off his shirt in celebration.
