The University of Ghana Sports Stadium, would be used alongside the Accra Sports Stadium for the Africa Women Cup of Nations to be hosted in Ghana next year.

The facility currently under construction is expected to be completed in time to host the competition, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi has said.

"We would ensure that the stadium is developed to a state-of-the-art facility that would complement the Accra Sports Stadium for the Championship, “he stated.

Mr Nynatakyi noted that the country could not rely only on the Accra Sports Stadium for such competitions, especially when the University could offer another option that to be utilized. Funds have therefore been allocated in the 2017 budget to ensure an early completion of the facility for the competition.

Ghana has been handed the mandate to host the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations after emerging as the only country to make a bid.

It will be the first time the country is hosting the competition since it began in 1998 and would be hoping to make a mark.

The Black Queens have been paired with defending champions Nigeria, Kenya and Mali in Group B for the tournament.
