Germany-based Braydon Manu has admitted his performance this season shouldn't have merited a Black Stars call-up for the World Cup 2022 qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa but all the same, he is happy about it.

Braydon Manu was handed a late call-up by Black Stars call by CK Akonnor due to the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and injuries to some key members of the team.

However, was an unused substitute in both games as Black Stars beat Ethiopia and lost to South Africa at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg in their second Group G game on Monday.

Reflecting on his call-up, the Darmstadt 98 midfielder said he was overly stunned by his call-up believing he had done little to earn a place in the Ghana team.

Braydon Manu has clocked just 76 minutes out of the available 540 Bundesliga II and Pokal Cup minutes combined.

“It came like nothing, I was surprised because I thought it was fake, I didn’t believe it. The technical director (Bernhard Lippert) called to tell me and I was happy but still I was like how?

“To be honest, I hadn’t played that much to earn the call-up but then I told myself maybe they had seen something in me that other people hadn’t seen.

“So this was the thing I said and after that Coach (CK Akonnor) called me, and step by step that was it. They told me they are watching me. And the next day Alex Asante was calling asking for my passport and told me they needed my passport because they wanted me to come to the National team.

“I was like wow, God is good, and I told him I am not having a passport. I only have a German passport.”

Braydon Manu has returned to his club with hopes of earning further call-ups to the Ghana team in subsequent matches.
