World Cup 2022Q: CK Akonnor to release Black Stars squad for September games today

Head Coach of the Black Stars Charles Kwablan Akonnor will today August 13, 2021 address the media  at the Conference Room of the Ghana Football Association.

Coach Akonnor will name Ghana’s squad for next month’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.

Ghana are scheduled to host Group G opponents Ethiopia on Friday, September 3 in Cape Coast, before playing South Africa on Monday, September 6, 2021 in Johannesburg respectively.

The Press briefing will take place at 11am.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has released the procedure for the draw of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021.

The draw which will take place at Palas de Congres Hotel in Yaounde on Tuesday, 17 August, 2021 will see the 24 participating teams divided into six groups of four.

CK Akonnor and Alex Asante - Head of the National Teams Department and Deputy General Secretary of the GFA will attend the event.

Ghana are placed in Pot 2 with record champions Egypt, two-time holders Cote D’Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea. Host Cameroon are in Pot 1 with champions Algeria, 2019 finalists Senegal, three time champions Nigeria and 1976 champions Morocco.

The 24 qualified teams are allocated to four pots of six teams each, based on the FIFA/Coca Cola World Ranking released on 12th August (the last ranking released before the date of the draw).

Ghana and 23 other countries will participate in next year’s TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Cameroon from January 09 to February 6, 2022.

Below is the list of teams who will be competing for the ultimate title next year.

Hosts Cameroon will be joined at the tournament by Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Ghana, Sudan, The Gambia and Gabon.

Morocco, Mauritania, Cape Verde, Egypt, Comoros, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone have also qualified.

Algeria are the reigning champions after beating Senegal in the 2019 final.
