Africa will now have its own web address - .africa, similar to the regular - .com.

Commenting on the ‘.africa’ initiative to the media - AU commission chairperson, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma praised its creation as the moment when the continent "got [its] own digital identity".

The AU official further noted, the .africa domain name will "bring Africa together as an internet community".

Henceforth, corporate and private entities in the across the content will basically reflect Africa’s interest.

For instance, a hospitality outfit by name Royalty will have a web address such as royaltyhotels.africa, or a business consulting firm in Nigeria with a name Smile Home would have a net-address as ‘smilehomenigeria.africa.

Quite more fascinating, profits & non-profits, political campaigns organizations, among others in Ghana, SA, Kenya, etc. could have addresses like behindthepage.africa; alank4president.africa or primenewsghana.africa.

Internet users across Africa have hailed the development as one that sets the continent on course in its effort to achieve 'cyber independence'.
