Former President George W. Bush in April privately revealed his concerns that Donald Trump could permanently bring down the Republican Party, according to a new report.

“I’m worried that I will be the last Republican president,” Bush said at a reunion for his administration in Dallas, Politico Magazine reported Tuesday morning.

Most members of the Bush family have been outspoken critics of Trump.

Bush and his father, former President George H.W. Bush, both skipped the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this year, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said he would not vote for Trump in the presidential election.

Jeb Bush was the early favorite last year to win the Republican nomination, and Trump seemed to especially delight in tearing into Bush as he raced past him in the polls en route to clinching the nomination. Trump also blamed George W. Bush's administration for the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Bob Dole is the only living former GOP presidential nominee to attend this week's convention. In addition to the Bushes, 2008 nominee John McCain and 2012 nominee Mitt Romney are both staying home.
