The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has warned the public against using 20 digital loan applications operating without licences or regulatory approval in Ghana.
The central bank said the identified digital credit service providers continue to offer loans through mobile applications and other online platforms despite not being authorised to operate.
In a public notice issued on Monday, August 3, 2026, the BoG also directed regulated financial institutions not to facilitate the activities of unlicensed digital lenders.
The bank said the operations of these platforms breach the directive for digital credit service providers in Ghana, which came into effect in September 2025.
According to the BoG, unregulated digital lending activities pose significant risks to consumers, particularly regarding data privacy, consumer protection, and compliance with financial regulations.
