The Finance Ministry recorded the highest irregularities for the 2017 financial year amounting to GHC697 million, the Auditor-General has revealed.
 The Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, on Tuesday submitted the performance audit report on management of healthcare waste, consolidated annual accounts for the 2017 financial year, public accounts – ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), and the District Assemblies Common Fund to Parliament.
The public accounts of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies(MDA's) as presented by the Auditor General revealed that the overall financial impact of weaknesses and irregularities amounted to over GHC892 million.
Tax irregularities amounted to GH¢655 million while cash irregularities amounted to GH¢190 million.
The rest of the breakdown: stores/procurement irregularities GH¢41 million, payroll irregularities GH¢1.7 million, outstanding loans/advances GH¢2.6 million, and rent irregularities GH¢195 million.
The Finance Ministry topped the league table of irregularities, followed by the Employment and Labour Relations Ministry with GHC 135 million while the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection recorded the third highest figure GHc25.5million.
The Health Ministry accounted for the fourth highest irregularities of GH¢21 million.

The Auditor-General has assured Parliament that he will investigate these further and possibly hold the officials accountable by disallowing the items of expenditure and surcharge.
