The government has reiterated its plans to revamp the nation’s postal service – Ghana Post as part of its efforts to create job opportunities in the country.

Ghana Post has over a prolonged period been operating well below its capacity, mainly due to the lack of innovation to meet the needs of an increasingly technologically driven society.

Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing - Deputy Communication Minister, George Andah said: “Ghana Post has a lot in terms of assets. It has a lot in terms of network. But if you listen to the acting MD, there are two words he keeps saying and that is we’re looking at financial inclusion, we’re looking at technology”

Furthermore, the acting MD of Ghana Post, James Coffie, disclosed some details in the implementation of the revamping plan.

Mr Coffie said they “have a four-year plan. In 2017, we are fixing the fundamentals. 2018, we expect to grow by about 20 per cent, same for 2019 and then we’ll see what happens in 2020. But we expect that by 2020, we should start paying dividends to the government of Ghana again”.

He added that Ghana's State Enterprise Commission has asked them for a comprehensive plan for injection of capital into the postal agency and that, they have submitted it.
