The highly anticipated Afro Nation Nigeria festival, set to take place in Lagos, Nigeria this December, has been cancelled.

The announcement was made by the event organizers in a statement released on October 31, 2023.

The decision to call off the festival was attributed to the organizers’ unwavering commitment to maintaining exceptionally high standards.

“As event organizers, we hold ourselves to extremely high standards, and it has become clear to us that it is currently not possible to deliver a show that is of the quality that Nigeria deserves in December 2023,” the statement read.

The organizers expressed their heartfelt disappointment in not being able to celebrate with fans in Nigeria this year but assured the public of their unwavering commitment to creating an Afro Nation show in Lagos that everyone can be proud of.

For those who had eagerly purchased tickets, the organizers have promised full refunds, including booking fees. Attendees need not take any action as they will receive an email with detailed information about the refund process.

The festival had previously announced a star-studded lineup, with headliners including Burna Boy, J Hus, Flavour, Seyi Vibez, and Black Sherif. The two-day event was originally scheduled to take place at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.

Afro Nation, known for providing a platform for artists to connect with their fans and creating cultural impacts globally, has successfully hosted events in various locations, including Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami, and Detroit. Nigeria, however, holds a special place in their hearts, making the cancellation a particularly poignant decision.

With the cancellation of the Afro Nation Nigeria festival, Ghana remains the only African country to have hosted the globally renowned festival. Fans and the music community will have to wait patiently for the next opportunity to come together and celebrate the vibrant Afrobeat culture that Afro Nation is known for.
