Sing-a-thon: Afua Asantewaa concludes Guinness World Record attempt

Ghanaian broadcast journalist Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has exceeded the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, having completed the attempt on Friday, December 29 by a record 126 hours and 52 minutes.

The broadcast journalist and mother of three has been performing hundreds of Ghanaian songs back-to-back at the Akwaaba Village in Accra since midnight on Sunday, December 24.

“This was a mere dream that was visualised in just a period of five days,” a visibly worn out but elated Aduonum told the crowd after the attempt. “It has been a smooth journey. I hope it will be an inspiration to women out there.”

On Thursday, December 27, 2023, Afua surpassed the prior record set by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, who had sung for 105 hours in March 2012.

Her team, however, eagerly awaits the official determination by the Guinness Book of Records.

Her medical team announced Friday morning that "Afua Asantewaa's health is our top priority, and we need to make sure she is fine…"
