5 things you should know about Kwahu Easter in Ghana

Kwahu Easter is an annual Easter celebrations at Kwahu in the Eastern Region of Ghana. People from all walks of life and all nationality throng to the Kwahu Hills every Easter to celebrate the three-day-long holiday.

The Easter celebration marked  in all districts in Kwahu. Ideally the reason for Easter to majority of people especially  Christians is to mark the death and resurrection of the Jesus Christ, but to the Kwahus, it's an avenue for homecoming.

Here are some fun activities at Kwahu Easter every year:

1. The History behind Kwahu Easter: it has now been accepted as part of Kwahu culture and national celebration, courtesy Ministry of Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has a flurry of socio-cultural activities in addition to how the indigenous Kwahus use the Easter to meet their families, resolve family problems, engage in festivities and observe quite time. The grandeur of the activities that marked the Easter includes paragliding, hiking, carnivals and street jams. Thus, the Kwahu people now see the Easter as an annual homecoming, whilst the holiday revelers looks at it as an occasion for celebrations.

2.Paragliding:  The recreational and competitive adventure sport of flying paragliders: lightweight, free-flying, foot-launched glider aircraft with no rigid primary structure. The pilot sits in a harness suspended below a fabric wing. Wing shape is maintained by the suspension lines, the pressure of air entering vents in the front of the wing, and the aerodynamic forces of the air flowing over the outside.Despite not using an engine, paraglider flights can last many hours and cover many hundreds of kilometers, though flights of one to two hours and covering some tens of kilometers are more the norm. By skillful exploitation of sources of lift, the pilot may gain height, often climbing to altitudes of a few thousand meters.

3.Street Carnival:Various campanies individuals organise a street carnivals on the street from Linda door, Thursday as a means of welcoming people into the town to make them have a feel of how the festive season will undergo. Same radio stations also do organise Ghanaian musicians to grace the Kwahu Easter celebration from Obomeng as the gateway into the main Kwahu township.

4.Inter-Community Soccer game: Despite the various community footballers, every "Hood" prefere to welcome new players from outside the community to make the Kwahu Easter Games more exciting and its also help bring love and unity amoung family and friends.The winner of the tournament goes home with some prizes like Cup, Football jeaseys and other survienirs.

5.Hiking:Hiking the Odweanoma Mountain in Atibie is another activity that visitors explore during their short stay in Kwahu. Visitors take a hiking expedition to the mountain through the 'Nkofieho' Caves of Life.
The journey to the caves area itself is a unique experience through a typical forest. At a certain stage in the journey, tourists have to take on the challenge of climbing up the hill as part of the excitement.
