Director for the Lands Commission, Dr. Wilfred Anim-Odame has been asked to proceed on leave.

A letter signed by the Minister for Lands and Natural resources, John Peter Amewu, informed the Land Commissions Director that the "President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo is not in a position to renew your contract as Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission for another term”.

Dr. Anim-Odame was also directed to hand over to the Lands and Natural Resources Minister and collect the terminal benefits or facilities due him.

Although his contract is expected to end on July 14, 2018, Dr. Anim-Odame has been asked to report to Mr. Amewu for re-assignment at the end of his leave.

Meanwhile,a former Chief Director of the Lands Ministry, Alhaji Suleimana Mahama, has been asked to act in the interim.

The reason for the President's decision not to renew the Lands Commission director's contract is yet to be known.

However, the President has over the past year observed that the processes of procuring land and registering land titles are fraught with corruption.

“Indeed, it appears that, for the right amount of money, any transaction, legal or illegal, can be procured at the Lands Commission. It is deeply regrettable that the very problems that led to the establishment of the Lands Commission and the implementation of a land administration reform programme, through the Land Administration Projects, still persist”, Akufo-Addo said as he inaugurated the board of the Lands Commission last year.
