Auditor General has revealed that an application for a fiat has been placed before the Attorney General for the Department to be able to prosecute corrupt officials.

Daniel Dormelevo said in their quest not to just publish findings of their report with no action taken against officials found culpable, the Auditor General's Department has written to the Attorney General for them to be granted the powers to prosecute.

The Auditor General's Department has been accused of just publishing reports yearly of institutions and individuals who have in diverse ways misappropriate state funds without actions taken against them.

According to critics of the Department, the same misappropriations discovered by the department turn to happen every year and reports are repeatedly published on them with the culprits walking away with impunity.

To change this action of culprits walking free, Auditor General Daniel Dormelevo said as a department they have zero prosecutorial powers but it can be possible for them to poses these powers like the Ghana Police Service and other institutions if the Attorney General grants them the fiat application to prosecute.

At a news conference on Monday, February 5, Auditor General Dormelevo said: "do we have prosecutorial powers? no, I don't have as at now zero, completely zero can I have? yes, that is if a fiat is given by the Attorney General to the Auditor General Department like they have given to the police and other to prosecute, if the Attorney General gives me fiat which I have already applied for, if I get that fiat you will see me in action."
