One of the National Security Operatives, Bright Ernest Akomeah referred to as 'Double' says they were ordered by DSP Azugu who is the head of the National Security SWAT unit to fire warning shots when they clashed with a crowd at the residence of the NDC candidate Delali Brempong during the Ayawaso by-election.

Double says they heard gunshot sound coming from the residence of the Mr Brempong and DSP Azugu asked them to rush to the place.

He said upon their arrival they met a large crowd of about 100 people and asked them who fired the shot but they were not given an answer.

He then said they decided to search a vehicle parked there but MP for Ningo Prampram Sam George arrived at the scene and said he will not allow them to do the search.

"We heard gunshots while in our vehicles and DSP Azugu asked us get out and go and investigate"

"Sam George arrived and asked us why we were intimidating the people there. We told him we wanted to conduct a search. He said there would be no search and the crowd followed suit"

"The crowd started throwing stones at us; DSP Azugu asked us to fire warning shots so some were fired, although I can't tell how many"

Double who was seen carrying an AK47 said he was not given a gun but took that of their driver who was a policeman.

He, however, says he did not fire a shot as claimed by Sam George.

"None of the civilian operatives in the SWAT team carried guns, I've been given some weapons training but I wasn't given a gun on the day of the by-election so I took that of our driver but I did not fire my gun like Sam George said"

The IGP today appeared before the Commission and more witnesses are expected in the coming days.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on January 31, 2019, was characterized by violence.

This led to some shootings and subsequently the injury of some 13 people believed to be NDC members.

This made the President set up a Commission of Inquiry to probe the incident.
