The Christian Council of Ghana has charged the West Africa Examinations Council, WAEC, to conduct the Basic Education Certificate Examination without incidence, especially the leakage of questions.
Speaking on JoyFm, General Secretary Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, said it is unfair for basic school students to be recalled to re-write papers, because the examination body did not put adequate measure in place to prevent the leakage of exam questions ahead of time.
The BECE has in recent years been plagued with incidents of question leakage. In 2015, the leakage of questions in five subjects; Papers 2 of English Language; Religious and Moral Education; Integrated Science; Mathematics, and Social Studies, forced WAEC to cancel them for students to re-write.
Investigations revealed some parents were very active in seeking the questions for their wards with the aim of making sure they passed.
Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, urged parents of final year JHS students taking the exams to instill in their wards a sense of integrity and refrain from looking for question papers for them.
468,053 candidates from 15,185 schools are expected to sit for this year’s examination across the country. They comprise 241,148 males and 226,905 females according to data from the Ghana Education Service [GES].
Meanwhile the Public Relations Officer of Ghana Education Service GES, Jonathan Bettey in an interview with Radio Ghana assured that measures have been put in place to prevent examination malpractices and leakage of question papers.
