Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has described the late renowned military officer, Captain Kojo Tsikata, as a worthy statesman.

According to him, although the late former Head of National Security and Foreign Affairs of the erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) regime was close to the NDC, his death is a loss for the whole country.

“[He] was one of the people who worked very hard to give us the democracy we are enjoying today. Right from the PNDC days to the NDC days and one of the founders of our party and our tradition, a senior statesman, Captain Kojo Tsikata is no more with us.

“In fact, it was when I was making my submission that I got a text message from senior members of our party. This is not sad news not only for the NDC but for the entire nation. Because Captain Tsikata’s stature goes beyond the NDC.

“It is sad news for Ghana. We are heartbroken and what we can say is that may the good Lord give him eternal peace and rest,” he said on TV3 when he announced the death of Captain Tsikata on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Prime News sources say the former Head of National Security and Foreign Affairs of the erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) regime had been battling an undisclosed illness for a long time.

The cause of his death on Saturday, November 20, 2021, is unknown but close family sources link his death to his long illness.

Mr Tsikata had been away from the public eye for the past decade.

In 1982 he was appointed by former President and late former Chairman of the PNDC, Jerry John Rawlings, to serve in his regime as the head of national security.

He also served as a member of the Council of State.
