The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into allegations that a Chief Inspector stationed in the region owns unauthorised wooden structures at Asafo BB, which are allegedly rented out to commercial sex workers.

In a statement issued on July 10, the Command said it is treating the allegations with seriousness and has initiated investigations to establish the facts surrounding the claims.

The Police assured the public that any further developments arising from the investigations will be communicated.

The statement was signed by Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

The Chief inspector's alleged activity was discovered when a special task force from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly stormed the area to demolish the illegal structures sitting along the Subin stream behind the COCOBOD building in Adum.

However, squatters occupying shacks in the area physically assaulted the team comprising soldiers and city guards.

They pelted stones at the team and destroyed two pickup trucks and an excavator being used for the demolition, with windscreens shattered and tyres deflated.

Three officers of the task force, including a soldier, sustaining various degrees of injury. This led to a halt of the exercise.

The Kumasi mayor, Richard Ofori Agyeman–Boadi, has hinted at an unannounced second phase of the demolition.
