The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has directed Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to withdraw its decision to suspend the employment contracts of all staff following the recent flooding at its Accra facility.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 1 July 2026, the ministry said it had taken a “very strong view” of the directive and instructed the management of the state-owned agency to withdraw it without delay.

The directive follows a circular issued by GDCL announcing the temporary suspension of employment contracts for all employees, effective July 1, 2026, pending what it described as a “comprehensive assessment” of the situation at the Centre after the floods.

However, the ministry rejected the move, insisting that the decision should not take effect.

“The Ministry takes a very strong view of the directive and immediately instructs Management to reverse that decision. All GDCL staff are to disregard the directive,” the statement said.

The ministry also expressed solidarity with workers who have been affected by the recent flooding, noting that many members of staff had suffered personal losses in addition to the damage sustained at the Centre.

“At a time when staff have been personally affected by the June 29 floods, the Ministry stands with its staff and the staff of all our agencies,” it added.

The intervention comes after the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations toured the Ghana Digital Centres premises on Tuesday, June 30, to assess the extent of destruction caused by the floods.

The centre, which hosts numerous technology companies, startups and digital innovation businesses, reportedly suffered significant damage after torrential rains triggered severe flooding across parts of the capital.

Following the minister’s inspection, the management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited has been summoned to the Ministry on Wednesday, July 2, to explain the circumstances surrounding the controversial suspension directive and discuss the way forward.
