The government says compensation payments to residents affected by the ongoing Accra-Kumasi Expressway project will begin in June as construction activities continue to make steady progress.
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson disclosed that the Ghana Armed Forces, which is undertaking preparatory works on the project, has so far successfully cleared about 51 kilometres along the stretch earmarked for the transformational expressway.
According to him, the compensation exercise will commence after assessments by the relevant state agencies are completed.
“Following assessments by the relevant state agencies, the Ghana Armed Forces will commence the payment of compensation to affected citizens in June,” Dr Forson stated.
He described the progress made on the project as impressive, praising the professionalism and deliberate approach being adopted in laying the foundation for what he called one of Ghana’s most strategic and economically transformative corridors.
The Accra-Kumasi Expressway is a flagship infrastructure project under President John Dramani Mahama aimed at improving transportation, boosting trade and enhancing economic activity between the southern and middle belts of the country.
Dr Forson said the works currently underway demonstrate government’s commitment to delivering the project successfully.
