The Co-Chair of the Citizens Movement against Corruption, CMaC Mr Edem Senanu has backed the claims of the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo that the Economic and Organized Crime Office, EOCO and other state institutions have failed in the fight against corruption.

According to him, EOCO has not achieved much with the naming and shaming of individuals culpable for corruption to serve as a deterrence to others.

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo earlier today said EOCO has not succeeded in the fight against corruption, adding to that he said the organization has to put in more strategies to deal with corruption menace in the country.

Reacting to the comments of the Senior Minister on Starr FM, Mr Senanu said there is an element of failure in the administration of EOCO

''Obviously, EOCO has done some work in the fight against corruption. But there is an element of failure, that failure cuts across not just EOCO but all the anti-graft agencies and groups that we know. We have not made the kind of impact expected to have made over the period''.

''From what has been out in the public space, I don't think that EOCO has done enough to serve that kind of deterrent we are talking about. Indeed, one of the things we don't do too well is doing public communication of individuals found culpable and forced to return monies, naming and shaming regularly that it becomes very perversive within the public space that this is what happens to you. I don't see that we have had such enough instances happening let alone being reported to serve as a deterrent, so there havent been much of that kind of achievement''.

He further indicated that going forward professional technocrats must be allowed to rise up the rank to lead these organizations and to have the independent ability to take actions that allow these institutions to thrive.

Meanwhile, the Senior Minister also backed calls for assets declaration of public officials. He said public officials should be ready to declare their assets and accept the publication of assets.
