Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has been arrested at the Accra International Airport after allegedly attempting to access funds in a frozen bank account while preparing to leave Ghana.
The arrest was disclosed by Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem Sai, in a Facebook post on Saturday, July 4, 2026. He said law enforcement officers intercepted the former NAFCO boss at the airport shortly before he was scheduled to board a flight to the United Kingdom.
According to Dr Sai, Abdul-Wahab had earlier secured permission from the High Court to travel abroad for a few days, even though he is currently standing trial on charges of stealing and causing financial loss to the Republic.
The Deputy Attorney-General also stated that fresh developments prompted authorities to act after the former CEO allegedly attempted to use “false means” to withdraw money from his frozen Republic Bank account on Thursday.
“It was Mr Aludiba’s attempt to use false means to empty his frozen bank account with Republic Bank on Thursday which occasioned tonight’s arrest,” Dr Sai stated.
He further revealed that the Attorney-General will challenge the High Court’s decision that allowed Abdul-Wahab to travel.
According to Dr Sai, the Attorney-General is expected to apply on Monday for a review of the court order granting the former NAFCO Chief Executive permission to leave the country.
Abdul-Wahab remains before the court on charges of stealing and causing financial loss to the state.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the alleged attempt to access the frozen bank account.
