Galamsey: Wontumi reports to CID over Akonta mining probe

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has reported himself to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service following an invitation.

He reported at the CID headquarters in Accra at about 9:30 a.m. on Monday [Oct 6, 2025] following a directive by the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine.


The Attorney General had warned that if Mr Boasiako failed to report himself, he was going to be arrested.

The investigations is on Akonta Mining Limited, a company linked to Mr Boasiako, which is being probed for alleged illegal mining activities.

The CID has confirmed that one other person connected to the company, identified as Akuoko, has also been arrested.

The Director-General in charge of CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lydia Yaako Donkor said Mr Boasiako had previously engaged with investigators but had delayed recent appearances due to ill health.
