The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has dismissed two car park workers at the Accra International Airport over allegations of extorting money from travellers.
The move forms part of the company’s efforts to clamp down on extortion and improve the overall experience for passengers using the airport.
The Managing Director of GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, announced the dismissals on Tuesday when Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transportation visited the airport.
According to her, the action followed repeated complaints from passengers, which helped the company identify those allegedly involved.
“Just about two weeks ago, we’ve had two people expelled from the airport in the car park workers who asked passengers for money. And instantly, because we were able to identify and zero in on the specific people, we were able to have them leave the airport immediately. So we are asking the general public to help us address these issues,” she said.
Mrs Opare said the company is determined to eliminate extortion and all forms of misconduct at the airport to ensure passengers enjoy a safe, secure and seamless travel experience.
She also appealed to the public to report any incidents of extortion or unprofessional behaviour involving airport staff, saying such reports would enable the company to take prompt disciplinary action against offenders.
The dismissal of the two workers is part of GACL’s broader efforts to strengthen accountability, improve service delivery, and uphold high standards at Ghana’s busiest international airport.
