Ghana committed to protecting refugees – Interior Minister

At the 76th Annual Plenary Session of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme in Geneva, Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak emphasized that Ghana is committed to protecting refugees and promoting durable solutions.

According to him, Ghana has made strides in working with countries of origin to ensure the efficient accomplishment of all aspects of durable solutions, including the legal aspects of it.

Addressing the Gobal Refugee Crisis and outlining Ghana’s contributions to refugee protection and durable solutions, the Minister highlighted Ghana’s commitment to ensuring that the ideals of the Global Compact for Refugees (GCR) remain unshaken.

He stated that Ghana is working with the UNHCR to implement the Ghana Refugee Agribusiness Sustainability Programme (GRASP), which aims to establish a flagship livelihood activity for refugees and their host communities.

Muntaka added that Ghana has also partnered with neighbouring countries to develop a sub-regional strategy for reinforcing national security while guaranteeing refugee protection and facilitating durable solutions.

The Minister commended the outgoing UNHCR High Commissioner, Mr. Filippo Grandi, for his remarkable leadership and tireless dedication to protecting refugees and promoting their rights.
