Ghana Police Service receive drones to fight drug related crimes

The Italian government has presented two drones and six motorbikes to the CID of the Police Service.

This comes after some twenty drug law enforcement and three ICT officers across the country received training on how to fight drug-related offences.

The training was done in Accra and this will go a long way to help fight crime.

Director-General in Charge of Services, COP Amponsah Asiamah, receiving the items said crime has become technological and sophisticated, and the drones have come at an opportune time to help the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Service to combat crime.

The Italian Ambassador to Ghana, Giovanni Favilli said to effectively wage war on the menace, modern equipment is needed.

He said the collaboration will strengthen and enhance the relationship between the two countries in fighting crime.

The Ghana Police Service in July this year received some 250 body cameras to be used by personnel.

The body camera is to enhance police transparency and accountability.

Police body cameras are small-lensed devices, often worn on an officer's chest to capture images. It has a microphone to record sounds and internal storage for data or footage for later review and analysis.

There have been several calls from a section of the public to equip the Police Service to enable them to fight crimes effectively.

One of the crimes on the rise is kidnapping, this has been very rampant recently and many have called on the police to help improve the security in the country.

In another news, the acting IGP James Oppong-Boanuh is set to be made the substantive IGP.
