The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has successfully returned 105 foreign nationals to their home countries after an intelligence-led operation in Asankragwa led to the apprehension of 112 individuals suspected of being trafficked into Ghana.
This is contained in a press release signed by DSI Barbara Sam dated June 1.
The statement said, "The raid, carried out on May 20, 2026, by the Asankragwa Sector Command under Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Kwabena Adjei, targeted premises believed to be hosting persons engaged in commercial sex activities in the area.
It added that, "Initial screening revealed the group comprised 110 Nigerians, one Beninese, and one Cameroonian all female, aged between 12 and 38.
They were later transferred to a holding center in the Greater Accra Region for further processing. Subsequent investigations by the Anti Human Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons (AHSTIP) unit of the Service identified seven suspects and confirmed 105 victims."
The National Operations Department of the Service working closely with the relevant embassies and Cameroonian community reps in Ghana facilitated the safe return of the victims to their home countries.
The seven suspects remain under investigation and could face prosecution if found culpable.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI) Samuel Basintale Amadu urged foreign nationals to comply with immigration and criminal laws.
He reaffirmed the Service's commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to combat human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and related transnational crimes, while protecting vulnerable population from exploitation.
