GJA inaugurates 9-member committee for 29th Media Awards

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced the constitution of a Nine-Member GJA Media Awards Committee to vet entries and select winners for the 29th GJA Media Awards.

The Committee is chaired by Mr. Gabriel Bosompem, Former Commissioner of the National Media Commission and Former Production Manager at TV3 (Media General).

Other members of the Committee are Mr. Kingsley Obeng-Kyere, 2012 GJA–P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year and Senior Manager at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC); Madam Nana Yaa Konadu, Presenter at Peace FM; and Madam Theresa Owusu Ako, Former Head of Radio News at GBC.

The rest are Madam Agnes Boye-Doe, Deputy News Editor, Ghana News Agency (GNA); Mr. David Andoh, President of the Ghana Photojournalists Network and Photojournalist at Multimedia Group; Alhaji Salifu Abdul-Rahaman, Editor, Ghanaian Times; Mr. Samuel Bio, Night Editor, Graphic Communications Group Limited; and Mr. Jeorge Wilson Kingston, Executive Secretary of the Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG).

The Committee will select winners in the various award categories to be honoured at this year’s awards ceremony, scheduled to take place at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi in November 2025.

Key prizes at stake include the prestigious GJA/P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year, Best Female Journalist of the Year, Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist of the Year, and Best Student Journalist of the Year.

The 29th GJA Media Awards, which will be held under the auspices of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, is expected to be a majestic and magnificent event, attracting both national and international dignitaries.

The National Executive of the GJA expressed excitement over the continuous support from Corporate Ghana, urging sponsors and partners to join the grand celebration at Manhyia to make the event a resounding success.

Terms of Reference for the 29th GJA Media Awards Committee

The Awards Committee has been constituted to ensure a fair, transparent, and credible selection process for the 29th GJA Media Awards. It is tasked with reviewing entries, identifying outstanding work, and recommending winners in line with the Association’s award criteria.

Terms of Reference (TOR):

  1. Review Entries

    • Assess all entries submitted by members in good standing.

    • Select the best entry in each category using the official award criteria.

  2. Select Runners-up

    • Identify first and second runners-up in each category for recognition and as reference in case of any review.

  3. Prepare Citations

    • Write short citations for the nominees in each category.

  4. Use of Discretion

    • Apply fair judgment, where necessary, to ensure the most deserving entries are selected.

  5. Reporting

    • Submit a report on the Committee’s work to the National Executive.

    • Include recommendations for improving future awards.

Timeline:

  • The Committee will operate from October 3 to October 30, 2025.

  • The final report must be submitted to the National Executive by Monday, November 3, 2025.

Members of the Committee are expected to carry out their duties with the highest level of professionalism and impartiality. All entries, deliberations, and decisions of the Committee shall remain strictly confidential until the official announcement of results by the GJA.
