GJA opens entries for 29th Media Awards

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened entries for the 29th edition of the GJA Media Awards, inviting members in good standing to submit their best works for recognition.

In a statement signed by GJA General Secretary, Dominic Hlordzi, the Association announced that entries will be accepted from Friday, September 12, 2025, until Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. The GJA stressed that no extensions will be granted beyond the deadline.

Eligible works must have been published or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Submissions are to be made strictly online via the official WeTransfer link: https://we.tl/r-KqYf62tiQ0.

This year’s awards ceremony will be held in Manhyia, Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, and is expected to be one of the most memorable in recent years.

Entry Requirements

  • Open to GJA members in good standing working in print, electronic, and online media.
  • Members of the National Executive and the GJA Media Awards Committee are not eligible.
  • Each applicant may submit entries in a maximum of two award divisions with not more than two works per division.
  • A single work cannot be submitted under more than one category.
  • Submissions must be clear, original published works.
  • All applicants must upload a passport-size photograph.
  • Student journalists must upload a scanned copy of a valid Student ID Card.
  • Entries must be titled “GJA Media Awards 2025” and should include the applicant’s personal details, media house, and contact information.
  • Applicants are encouraged to use a stable internet connection to ensure smooth uploading.

The GJA noted that the Awards Committee reserves the right not to confer an award in a category if submissions do not merit recognition.

Award Categories
The awards will be presented across six divisions covering:

  • Division One: News, Features, Documentaries, Columnists.
  • Division Two (Beats): Sports, Education, Investigative, Photojournalism, Arts & Entertainment, Business/Economics, Environment/Science, Health, Gender, Crime/Court, and the Akoto Ampaw Award for Democracy & Good Governance.
  • Division Three (Special Campaigns): Disability, Domestic Tourism, Road Safety, Illegal Mining.
  • Division Four (Programmes & Layout): Best Radio/TV Programme (English & Ghanaian Languages), Best Newspaper Layout.
  • Division Five (Promising Journalists): Best Student Journalist, Best Female Journalist, Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist.
  • Division Six: The ultimate prize, the GJA/P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year.

The overall winners of the Journalist of the Year, Best Female Journalist of the Year, Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist, and Best Student Journalist of the Year will be selected from among the divisional awardees.
