The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a caution to the general public over the activities of unrecognised tertiary institutions operating within and outside Ghana.

The Commission says these institutions are not accredited and do not meet the required quality assurance standards for tertiary education in the country.

In a statement dated May 28, the commission cautioned students and parents to exercise due diligence before enrolling in or accepting certificates from such institutions.

“The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) wishes to inform the general public that the institutions listed below are currently not recognized by the Commission due to various quality assurance concerns,” the statement said.

GTEC added that individuals who obtain certificates from these institutions may have their qualifications rejected in academic and professional spaces.

“Accordingly, the general public is advised to exercise due diligence with regard to any certificates issued by these institutions,” it stated.

The list contains 70 institutions spanning various countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, India, Switzerland, Liberia, Nigeria and Ghana.

Among the flagged institutions are Universidad Azteca (Mexico), Atlantic International University (USA), Swiss Management Centre University (Switzerland), Texila American University (Guyana), and several theology and business schools operating under questionable accreditation status.

Some of the institutions operating locally in Ghana include Debest College of Science, Arts and Business, Faith University Seminary and Kingdom Living Bible Institute.
