Health Ministry begins recruitment of doctors, nurses for Jamaica deployment

The Ministry of Health has announced the recruitment of qualified Ghanaian doctors and nurses for deployment to Jamaica under a partnership arrangement between the governments of Ghana and Jamaica.

The exercise targets specialist nurses and physicians seeking what authorities describe as a challenging but rewarding professional opportunity in the Caribbean country.

According to a recruitment advertisement issued by the ministry on Wednesday, June 3, applications opened on Monday, June 1, and will close on Friday, June 5.

“The Government of Jamaica, in partnership with the Government of Ghana, seeks to recruit qualified Medical and Nursing professionals interested in a challenging yet highly rewarding professional opportunity in Jamaica,” the advertisement stated.

The vacancies include specialist nursing positions in Neonatology, Oncology, Critical Care, Nephrology, Emergency and Peri-Operative Nursing, as well as Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife roles.

The recruitment also covers fellowship-level physician positions, including General Surgeons, Internal Medicine Specialists, Anaesthesiologists, Pathologists, Nephrologists and Cardiologists.

To qualify, applicants must meet the regulatory requirements of the relevant professional bodies, including the Medical and Dental Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The ministry said applicants must also have at least two years of working experience after completing their post-basic education.

“The Applicant should meet the regulatory requirements of the Medical & Dental and Nursing Professions Council. Applicants should have at least two (2) years of working experience after Post Basic Education,” the statement said.

Applicants are required to submit a range of documents, including academic certificates, certificates of good standing from their professional councils, appointment letters, criminal record certificates, immunisation certificates, birth certificates, curriculum vitae, reference letters and valid passports.

The ministry further indicated that applications must be submitted through its recruitment portal and that candidates will be required to present certified copies of all relevant documents during scheduled interviews.
