The Inspector General of Police, IGP David Asante Apeatu, and the Ashanti regional police commander, DCOP Kwesi Mensah Duku, were today July 20, 2018, chased away by some Zongo youth when they visited Kumasi Central Mosque.

The IGP and the Ashanti regional police commander visited the Kumasi Central Mosque to meet with the leadership of the Zongo communities on the killing of seven persons by the police in the Ashanti region.

According to reports, immediately after the Friday prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque, some angry Zongo youth brought out placards to register their displeasure on the killing of seven persons by the Ashanti police on early this week at Poano.

The Zongo youth accused the police of wrongful killing innocent people who hail from the Zongo community. They alleged that the police has developed the penchant of killing innocent persons and tagging them as armed robbers.

The youth, are therefore calling for the dismissal of the Ashanti regional Police Commander DCOP Kwesi Mensah Duku accusing him of peddling untruth to the public.

Just when the IGP and the Ashanti regional commander arrived at the central mosque to meet with the leadership of the Zongo community, the angry youth started pelting stones at them.

It took the intervention of reinforcement team to move the IGP and the regional commander to safety. The Police then fired gunshots to drive away the crowd from the streets.

Some angry youth of Asawase, a suburb of Kumasi went on rampage on Wednesday, burning lorry tires and blocking the main road leading to the Manhyia Palace to protest the killing of seven of their colleagues believed to be members who were shot and killed by the police on Tuesday

The angry mob continued their protest on Thursday when they stormed the Manhyia Hospital to vandalize some properties belonging to the Hospital.
