Indian Association of Ghana begins tree planting exercise at cricket oval

The Indian Association of Ghana has begun a tree planting exercise at the Achimota Cricket Oval as part of efforts to make the venue conducive for the sport.

Trees would be planted along the entire circumference of the cricket oval which would serve as fencing or boundary to the place.

The exercise also forms part of the India's Independence Day celebrations scheduled for August 15.

The exercise was launched by the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Birender Singn Yadan who praised the association for the initiative.

He said, “it is a noble initiative to plant trees as well as ensuring that cricket lovers enjoy the game in the best atmosphere.”

The cricket players he said, must maintain the place to achieve its purpose for a very long time.Cricket he said has a very bright future in the country as Ghana has already made a presence at the world stage.

The High Commissioner joined the cricket team to play a game and urged them to continue training to become the best team in the world.

President of the Indian Association of Ghana, Rajesh Thakker said it is important to give back to the environment by replacing trees that have been cut.

He said, they intend to plant trees across the country including Korle Bu, Prampram and other places.
