The teenager who allegedly killed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, has been officially charged with murder.

The suspect, whose name has been given as Daniel Asiedu, was charged on Tuesday when he made his first court appearance. According the charge sheet cited by Citi News, the 19-year-old suspect was charged based on his own confession that he committed the gruesome act. The Police averred that the suspect “intentionally” and “unlawfully” caused the death of the MP.

The charge sheet said: “For that you on 9th February, 2016 at about 1:00am at Shiashie, East Legon in the Greater Accra Magisterial District and within the jurisdiction of this court, did intentionally and unlawfully cause the death of Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, MP for Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region.” The investigator, Inspector Augustus Nkrumah, also indicated that Daniel Asiedu has confessed to committing the crime and added that “he went there to steal but in the process the deceased woke up and held him.”

“That the deceased struggled with him so he pulled out his knife and stabbed him several times and he became weak and fell down. That he went ahead and ransacked the room but had only the items mentioned above,” the investigator claimed.
