The Junior Doctors’ Association of Ghana (JDA-GH) has suspended its planned nationwide withdrawal of services following constructive discussions with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other key stakeholders.

The decision comes after a series of high-level engagements aimed at addressing the concerns raised by junior doctors over issues including delayed postings, poor working conditions, and challenges with remuneration.

In a statement released by the Association, the leadership explained that the suspension of the strike is a demonstration of good faith and a response to the Ministry’s commitment to finding immediate and sustainable solutions to their grievances.

“After careful consideration and following assurances from the Ministry of Health and relevant stakeholders, the Association has decided to suspend its planned industrial action to allow for the full implementation of the agreed resolutions,” the statement noted.

The JDA-GH further emphasized that while the strike suspension is temporary, it expects the government to act swiftly on its commitments to avoid further disruptions in healthcare delivery.

The Ministry of Health, for its part, has reportedly pledged to expedite the processing of financial clearances and postings for house officers and to address systemic challenges affecting junior doctors nationwide.

The JDA-GH indicated that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and will not hesitate to take further action should the agreed timelines not be met.
