Commissioner of Police(COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye has retired from the Ghana Police Service after more than 30 years of duty.
The popular policeman, affectionately known as Commander One, officially retired from office today, April 5, 2023, on his 60th birthday.
He leaves office as head of the Ghana Police Service’s Legal and Prosecution Division.
A ceremony was held today with family, friends, and top security officials including IGP George Akuffo Dampare bidding him farewell.
COP Boakye’s time in service was characterized by selfless dedication to fighting crime, particularly armed robbery which won him the hearts of Ghanaians.
In 2005, as an ACP, the retiring COP led a squad of officers from the Greater Accra Regional Police Command to apprehend the notorious armed robber, Ataa Ayi, and some members of his gang, making him a household name across the country.
During his time at the helm of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the force made several notable arrests of wanted criminals.
He was the Western Regional Police Commander for 10 months before his transfer to Kumasi. He had also headed the Greater Accra Regional Command as the Commander previously.
The officer was noted for his strong views, making controversial arrests of musicians including Kwaw Kese, Shatta Wale, and former Local Government Minister Maxwell Kofi Jumah.
