The Police administration has disclosed reasons and facts surrounding the arrest of NDC Deputy General Secretary Koku Anyidoho on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

In a statement signed by the Director General of the Public Affairs Division of the Police Administration, ACP David Eklu assured Ghanaians that the police will follow due process in the investigation of the case involving Koku Anyidoho.

According to the statement, he was arrested on suspicion "that he had published statements likely to cause fear and alarm to the public and also endeavoured to carry out by unlawful means an activity which could overthrow the executive power of Ghana."

The statement added that Mr. Anyidoho had been cautioned on offenses relating to causing fear and public and remains in police custody pending further investigation.

Koku Anyidoho was on Tuesday arrested for claiming that there will be a civil coup d'etat against the Akufo-Addo government in the coming days. 

After his arrest, Prime News can confirm that a number of police officers stormed his residence in search of documents or equipment in connection with his "treasonable" comment.

The heavily armed Police officers, however, met a virtually empty apartment upon their arrival at the residence of Deputy General Secretary Koku Anyidoho.

Meanwhile, his lawyer Victor Adawudu has confirmed that Koku Anyidoho has been charged with treason adding that the police will release him soon.
